Down Syndrom Investigation
Pregnant women, preferably between 11 and 14 weeks’
gestation or 16 and 18 weeks’ of gestation, at
increased risk based on clinical history, screening
results or ultrasound finding, should perform the test.
The intent of such screening and diagnosis is to inform
pregnant women about the fetus condition and help to
take the decision regarding continuing the pregnancy
or to be prepared for the birth of an affected infant.
Prenatal screening and diagnosis are routinely offered
for neural defects (NTD), Down Syndrome, and Trisonomy
18 detection.
