Ancestry- Y
Trace the origin of direct paternal line.
Only men carry the Y-chromosome so it is passed
only from father to son. There are 18 major
paternal lineages identified worldwide. The
Ancestry-Y test identifies from a sample which
one of the 18 paternal lineages is present
and identifies the broad geographic region
throughout which the lineage is found.
Only males can take this test. Women interested
in their paternal ancestry need a father,
brother, paternal uncle or paternal male cousin
to provide a DNA sample to determine their
lineage. This test traces only along the strict
paternal line. For example, if your paternal
great-grandmother's lineage was Asian, it
will not be detected with this test.
