| Complete Hormonal Health & Anti aging Profile |
|
|
|
Hormones are chemical messengers that control
bodily functions. Body's hormonal levels deplete
with age. By measuring a patient's level of hormones,
a balanced hormone replacement can be prescribed
to restore hormone levels to where they were in
the patient's early 30s. In many cases, this can
be done naturally with secretogogues, which release
the hormones already made by the body.

Food
Intolerance Test
Non-allergic food hypersensitivity is the medical
name for food intolerance, loosely referred to
as food hypersensitivity. It is a delayed, negative
reaction to a food, beverage, food additive, or
compound found in foods, which involves symptoms
in one or more body organs and systems, but is
not a true allergy. The precise distinction between
food intolerance and a food allergy is often missed.
A true food allergy requires the presence of IgE
antibodies against the food. Food intolerance
involves the immune system, mediated by IgG antibodies.
Advantages of Foodprint
Test
Most of the Food Intolerance Tests that are
available to detect the intolerance, use ELISA
test ( Immu Pro or York Test) to detect IgG
antibody responses against the foods. ALCAT
test is performed using modified coulter counter,
which counts and sizes white blood cells before
and after incubation with specially prepared
propietary gels that contains the different
food items to be tested. Food Print test utilizes
state-of the-art Genarrayt(R) Microarray technology
to detect food specific IgG antibodies.Genarrayt(R)
microarray is produced by printing hundreds
of protein spots onto a specially-prepared glass
slide each spot measureing only 130 µm across.
The advantage of FoodPrint
over the other tests are as follows:
- Works with whole blood, plasma or
serum
- 5 µL sample volume means less invasive
sampling
- Highly miniatured- 1 slide instead
of 80 µL plates
- 64 samples assayed in less than
2 hours so the turn around time is only 3
days
- Flexible array design allowing for
dietary variation
- High throughput multiplex assay
for over 200 food antibodies
- Comparatively cheape

| Hemoglobinopathy
|
|
|
|
| Hemoglobinopathy
is a group of blood disorders passed down through
families (inherited) in which there is abnormal
production or structure of the hemoglobin molecule.
Common hemoglobinopathies include sickle-cell
disease. It is estimated that 7% of worlds population
(420 million) are carriers, with 60% of total
and 70% pathological being in Africa. Hemoglobinopathies
are most common in ethnic populations from Africa,
the Mediterranean basin and Southeast Asia.
Most significant hemoglobinopathies cause mild
to acute anemia, in rare cases hemolytic anemia.
In sickle cell disease the red blood cells tend
to assume a different shape under anaerobic
conditions, leading to organ damage and circulatory
problems, while in thalassemia there is ineffective
production of red blood cells.
Common variants of abnormal
hemoglobin
- Hb S
- Hb C
- Hb E
- Hb D-Punjab
- Hb O- Arab
- Hb G- Philadelphia
- Hb Harsharon
- Hb Korle- Bu
- Hb Lepore
- Hb M

Genetic
Counseling
|
|
|
|
| Genetic counseling
is provided by a team of health professionals
who work together to provide an individual or
family with current information and supportive
advice or guidance regarding health related problems
in growth and development due to genetic condition.
This assists families and individuals to understand
and adjust to the diagnosis of a genetic condition
that they encounter.
Genetic counseling provides
- Information
- Supportive counseling regarding
the diagnosis and risk of a genetic condition
in the family
- Prescribe diagnostic, carrier,
predictive and presymptomatic genetic testing
where appropriate
- Management of conditions in some
cases

Pre
Natal Screening
|
|
|
|
| Prenatal screening
is carried out to identify the fetus, at risk
of being born with an abnormality or any disorder.
It allows parents to be fully informed of the
potential risk of giving birth to a deformed child
and the further consequences. Combined with appropriate
prenatal counselling, decision can be made about
the continuation of the pregnancy.
Prenatal tests include
the following:
A. Routine Biochemical Tests -
Blood test for anemia, blood group Rh typing,
blood sugar, blood for infectious disease screening
(TORCH screening), HIV, hepatitis and syphillis.
B. Routine Ultrasound -
This provides information about the normal
growth of the fetus, number of the fetuses,
if any chromosomal abnormalities, record foetal
heartbeat, breathing movements including the
expected time of delivery.
C. Biochemical Maternal Serum Screening-
These screening tests are capable of detecting
fetal abnormalities such as Down's Syndrome,
Spina Bifida and many more. The screening
includes:
D. Confirmatory Tests- For
correct diagnosis, the chromosomes of the
fetus must be examined by the follwoing procedures:
E. Genetic Counselling -
The interpretation and risk assessment of
the prenatal analysis and later the confirmatory
diagnosis need to be explained to the parents
by a genetic counselor.

Pre-Marital
Screening
|
|
|
|
| Pre Marital
screening is a comprehensive group of tests for
those who are planning to get married. Having
a child is one of the most important decisions
in a couples’ life, however there are certain
situations whereby the couple is likely to have
a genetic makeup that would confer their child
with a genetic disorder.
Pre Marital screening is made mandatory by
the Ministry of Health (MOH), UAE, for the people
getting married. The Screening offered by MOH
includes the following tests:
Thalassemia
Sickle Cell Anemia
Hepatitis B
Sexually Transmitted Diseases |

World
AIDS Day on 1st December
|
|
|
|
| The World
AIDS Day theme for 2009 is 'Universal Access and
Human Rights'. World AIDS Day is important in
reminding people that HIV has not gone away, and
that there are many things still to be done. Global
leaders have pledged to work towards universal
access to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care,
recognizing these as fundamental human rights.
Valuable progress has been made in increasing
access to HIV/AIDS services, yet greater commitment
is needed around the world if the goal of universal
access is to be achieved. Millions of people continue
to be infected with HIV every year. In low- and
middle-income countries, less than half of those
in need of antiretroviral therapy are receiving
it, and too many do not have access to adequate
care services. |
